Here is the latest single from Nashville-based Katie Pruitt, released to coincide with her new album.  ‘Self Sabotage’ showcases Pruitt’s excellent voice, which blends soulful vulnerability and a gritty edge.  Her guitar-work is striking – fluid, dynamic and delivered with great power and purpose.  Also striking are the intimate, exposing lyrics: “I don’t, I don’t know how to let somebody know// I try to scream but fear has got me by the throat…I’m screaming from the inside out…Abandon this self sabotage”  As hard as the words and themes are, there’s also a real sense of resilience here.

This is from Pruitt’s brand new album ‘Mantras’, which is out now on Rounder Records.  Pruitt’s first new album for four years follows her impressive 2020 debut ‘Expectations’.  Produced by Jake Finch and Collin Pastore (boygenius, Lucy Dacus), ‘Mantras’ features more personal songs, delivered from the heart with a full and powerful sound.

Pruitt says of the new material: “‘Mantras is a full circle journey from self-sabotage to self-compassion. Writing this record forced me to stop seeking external validation from the rest of the world and turn my focus inward. After hitting a low point that caused me to seek extensive therapy, I realised I had a problem with negative self-talk. So I started writing down phrases of encouragement and repeating mantras in the mirror. Through this practice I learned how to be a kinder friend to myself and ultimately a kinder friend to others. When life gets heavy and the future feel overwhelmingly out of our control, we can learn to turn inwards and build a home inside of ourselves.”  This personal growth is matched by a musical maturity and development, making this a must-listen album.  Check it out.
