Well, in a way it is about that, but only that Adrian Sutherland’s original song ‘Politician Man‘ is critical of any and all politicians who are in it simply for themselves rather than as a servant of the people trying to pursue the greater good. This is a powerful reimagining of a hard-hitting anthem from 2019 that addressed Canada’s complex relationship with First Nations. ‘Politician Man’ was released in response to the contaminated water crisis in Adrian Sutherland’s remote Cree community of Attawapiskat. Upon receiving an influx of fan emails from around the world, the idea was sparked to one day make ‘international’ duet versions. Five years later… Don Politico (Politician Man) is the first of these versions.
The duet is with Brazilian born and raised Rodrigo Massa, an actor, singer and TV host who started his career in Mexico. Rodrigo Massa made the Spanish language translation of the lyrics, ‘Don Politico (Politician Man)’ was originally written by Adrian Sutherland, Chris Gormley, and Matt Gormley. It was produced and engineered by Carl Jennings in Hamilton, and mastered by João Carvalho in Toronto.
And here, as an extra treat, is the original version by Adrian Sutherland.
