One of Americana UK readers’ favourite acts, The Delines, has announced a welcome return to the UK in support of their fourth album, to be released early next year, including a show at the Union Chapel, a venue they’ve previously sold out twice.
The Delines formed from the ashes of Richmond Fontaine: lead singer/songwriter Willy Vlautin, drummer Sean Oldham, and bassist Freddy Trujillo joined forces with the singer Amy Boone and Cory Gray on keys and trumpet. “We’ve just put the final touches on the new record after nearly two years of recording, mixing, and tinkering. It’s our most ambitious one yet and Boone’s vocals are devastatingly beautiful” says Vlautin.
The Delines’ debut album, “Colfax”, appeared in 2014 surprising fans and critics alike. It was a four-year wait until their sophomore effort was released. Boone spent much of that time in hospital beds recovering from serious injuries sustained in a car accident in Austin, TX. When she was just strong enough to stand, she finished the vocal tracks for “The Imperial”, a record that spent two weeks on top of the UK official Americana charts with the band playing sold out shows across the UK and Europe. The band returned with their cinematic third album, “The Sea Drift”, which both Americana UK and BBC6 Music’s Gideon Coe named ‘Album of the Year’. The band has performed at End Of The Road, Take Root, Black Deer and many other European festivals.
Vlautin himself is no stranger to critical acclaim, enjoying success and rave reviews from the likes of the New York Times, Washington Post, Uncut, Rolling Stone and MOJO, both as a musician and a novelist with seven books under his belt. Two of his books, “The Motel Life” and “Lean On Pete”, have been made into films with another currently in production with Netflix for release in 2025. For tickets for all the dates, head here.
