Track Premiere: The Hearts “Almost Ready”

Contractually, you understand, we have to be extra nice to people who’ve granted us a premiere, as The Hearts have today.  But…look at that picture, have you ever seen a more Americana looking band…and surely one guy has run around the back to get in the photograph twice?   Well, maybe not – but familiarity, in a very good way, is part of ‘Almost Ready‘: The Hearts are a band who are not unfamiliar with the work of Tom Petty.

The Hearts are from Edmonton, Canada, and are releasing ‘Almost Ready‘ as the latest single from their fifth album ‘Traces.‘  The Hearts have made a name for themselves over the years by performing in dive bars, intimate theatres, and at bustling music festivals.  The Hearts’ journey has been marked by impressive achievements, including topping indie charts, having their music featured on MTV and HBO, and receiving multiple award nominations. They’ve graced the stages of major festivals such as SXSW, Edmonton Folk Fest, Calgary Folk Fest, and Interstellar Rodeo.
On ‘Traces‘ they promise a continuation of their tradition of melodic, melancholic swagger – and there’s plenty of that on ‘Almost Ready‘ where elements of an only partially fulfilled life, cut by compromise and half-steps, is welded to big choruses and vibrant ringing guitars.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
