Video Premiere: Jake Neuman & The Jaybirds “Saved”

Check out the atmospheric video for the raw and rootsy new single from Jake Neuman and The Jaybirds.  Three key elements combine to make ‘Saved’ such a compelling song: the strong rhythm, the plaintive electric guitar and, above all, the vocal performance from front-man Jake Neuman.  The 25 year old Neuman possesses a distinctive voice that is full of vulnerability and sets him apart as an artist to watch. Neuman says of writing the song: “Feeling lost, 2020 hit us all hard, and the first time after leaving my home town I was able to put the feeling into words.”  ‘Saved’ is a lyrically compelling song that faces up to deeply challenging times in Neuman’s life but manages to feel infused with hope and a sense of triumph.

After suffering a life-threatening brain haemorrhage in 2020, Neuman used music as a lifeline, giving him a sense of purpose and means of expression, channelling his experiences and reflecting his struggles and hopes as he overcame adversity.  As a result, his songs are genuinely personal and emotive; they are well-crafted, open-hearted insights into his life.  The single features on the new EP, ‘Little Bitty Town’, a deeply personal collection that was well-received on its release in the summer.  Neuman is ably supported by Jeff Hill (Steve Earle, Shooter Jennings) on bass, Tony Leone  (Little Feat, Chris Robinson Brotherhood) on drums and Jimmy Wallace (Jack Ingram, Dierks Bentley) on keys; it’s a gifted group of performers that energises Neuman’s alt-country songs.

‘Saved’ is a genuinely atmospheric song, delivered with real feeling by a talented new arrival on the Americana scene.  Enjoy.
