Check out ‘So Sorry’, the recent single from Australian singer-songwriter John Butler.  With an upbeat, rhythmic feel and a light, bright sound, ‘So Sorry’ could be a perfect song for your summer.  The melody is catchy and memorable and soars in the singalong chorus.  Butler says of the song: “Long relationships end up having a lot of water under the bridge. We end up saying and doing things we live to regret. You get together as ‘kids’ and if you’re lucky, you learn how to regulate and become adults together. But no one gets out unscathed.”

The single will feature on the new album “PRISM”, which is due for release on 5th September.  Butler shares of the record: “It’s a big life and the world, in many ways, is in turmoil. Personally, I did a lot of soul-searching and reflecting as this record took shape.  For me, ‘PRISM’ is a cathartic release, a celebration of going solo, moving away from the John Butler Trio moniker, and yet another sonic stretch as I continue to refine my musical journey. The title reflects the sonic and emotional ‘bandwidth’ I wanted to explore: the whole spectrum of what it is to be human. Love, death, politics, inner and outer turmoil and redemption.”

On the new record, Butler moves away from the John Butler Trio moniker, going solo and sharing instrumentation and production duties with James Ireland.  What remains the same is the way he blends personal songs with bombastic guitars, catchy hooks and soaring choruses.  Back in 2003, Butler became the first independent artist to reach number 1 in Australia with John Butler Trio album “Sunrise Over Sea”, inspiring other independent troubadours to shake off the restrictions of record labels and corporate sponsorship and to follow this new path to musical success.  And this is where he finds himself again, writing and playing with a sense of freedom.  Look out for Butler on tour in the UK in October and November 2025, including a date at The Troxy in London on 1st November.  Enjoy.
