Here’s the video for Lucy Kitt’s recent single ‘Sweet Time’, a beautifully-written ballad. Over her acoustic strum, Kitt’s vocal performance is outstanding – pure, clear and gorgeously melodic. The song explores the theme of trying to help someone you love through a difficult period. While it is hard to watch them suffer, they need to be given the time and space to heal and process their feelings. Her carefully-chosen words are engaging and sweetly poetic: “Because you’re a deep old river // An endless giver // With a gentle mind // Dealing in your own sweet time // Waiting for the stars to align.” Simply, ‘Sweet Time’ is great, uncomplicated songwriting: it’s memorably tuneful, lyrically authentic, well-crafted and arranged with quality production.

‘Sweet Time’ is from Kitt’s brand new album “Telling Me”, which has just been released on 23rd January via Wineberry Records. Kitt explains the narrative approach to her songwriting this time around, moving on from the more personal reflections on previous albums: “The songs on this record are like a collection of stories. Stories that I have experienced, and also from the perspective of other people in my life. Many of these songs were written about friends and family that have been through hard times.” The album features a range of talented collaborators, including Nashville-based pedal steel player Spencer Cullum, who adds luscious layers to Kitt’s finely written acoustic compositions. Check this out – it’s sensitive balladry at its most beautiful.
