Video Premiere: Seven Crows “Boreal”

Seven Crows returns with the haunting beauty of Boreal, an ambient piece built in layers of looping violin sounds that unfold like sonic mist. Seven Crows is an instrumental project from the dramatic bow of violin maestro and travelling troubadour Chris Murphy. The cinematic Boreal begins with low, elongated notes before rhythmic plucking and soaring highs overlap and transport us to some other place, an ethereal, atmospheric elsewhere. Murphy’s live looping comes around in tidal, legato waves, shimmering in sustained circular phrases that channel our thoughts and feelings, evoking the shifting sands of life and the transforming power of memory and time. In the video, filmed and edited by Edith Held, sunlight is scattered through silhouetted tree branches in a magical woodland location. Visually, it conveys the same mood of mystery and half-remembered moments as Murphy’s music.

This is the third single from the upcoming new album from Seven Crows. Powers of Observation is due to be released on 24th April 2026 via Teahouse Records. The fourteen tracks are created entirely from Murphy’s violin and guitar pedals, and the result is a set of immersive soundscapes that defy genre. This is beautifully composed music to lose yourself in.

On stage, Murphy’s performances and songs are dynamic; ever-changing and fluent phrases unfold and evolve in real time, growing and breathing and becoming something more. After touring the UK and Europe this February, Murphy is set to return to our shores in July, and his intimate shows come highly recommended. Under the Seven Crows moniker, Murphy seeks out new musical worlds through expansive, ambient soundscapes for our minds to wander through. Be absorbed.
