Something for the weekend: Charley Crockett “Kentucky Too Long”

Well, that’s it from us for this week, and we leave you with new music – again, the man is like a singles conveyor belt – from critically acclaimed country iconoclast Charley Crockett. In his brand new single Kentucky Too Long, Crockett flicks the strings of his acoustic guitar and notes with some sharp social commentary: “Daddy was in Vietnam. It says it on his old Sedan. He’s been fighting with Uncle Sam about…something… Man, I can feel it coming on. I’ve been in Kentucky too long. I’ve been in Kentucky making something out of nothing too long.”  Crockett will be on the road for the duration of the year, with dates including Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto, Boston, Austin, New Orleans, and the Music City Rodeo in Nashville. No UK stops at the moment but we live in hope.

Take care, we keep saying don’t forget Palestine  and it’s for good reason. As noted in The Guardian today, as well as the Gaza genocide there have been over 1,000 Palestinians killed in the West Bank since October 2023. The Palestine Action High Court judgement earlier today was a rare piece of good news and really important to remember just how outrageous the impact of this has been on members of the group: “Since proscription, prison staff have treated them like terrorists: censoring their post, their access to books, to their telephones, and other prisoners. Staff have kept them shackled, even when they were using the toilet.” To bastardise Neil Kinnock, this grotesque spectacle is happening under a Labour government, a Labour government. Urgh.

So yeah I guess, keep fighting those fascists, wherever they are in the world. See you next week.
