Taj Mahal “Wild About My Lovin'” –

And so we reach the end of all star week here at the Tracks section of Americana UK – did we not mention that it’s all star week at Tracks?  We figured you’d notice.

Taj Mahal’s latest album Time will be released on May 1st, and the current single Wild About My Lovin’ pretty much exemplifies what the album is about – the bringing together of a bundle of influences and traditions including  soul, roots, folk, reggae and blues.  One could say that Time captures a shared musical language refined across decades.  And, as Ruthie Foster writes in her liner notes for Taj’s album: “turn it up — this is deep-groove, grown-folks music from a band that still plays like the night is young.”  Sound Advice.

The sessions for the album featured Tony Braunagel (drums), Larry Fulcher (bass) and Johnny Lee Schell (guitar), who also produced the album alongside Berkowitz. Additional musicians include New Orleans piano great Jon Cleary (who you probably also know from having played regularly with Dr John) and organist Mick Weaver.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
