Tough Old Bird “Wednesday’s Child” – keeping it all quiet

If you like your folk-rock with a hint of jangle, then you’re going to like the new single from Tough Old Bird, who, we note, we last featured on Americana UK way back in 2019. Back then, Tough Old Bird were brothers Matthew and Nathan Corrigan, but they’ve recently expanded the line-up to include Ricky Bechard (drums) and Brendan O’Shea (bass), and they’ve taken the new line-up into Sunwood Studios in Trumansburg, NY to record virtually live for Wednesday’s Child. And it shows – there’s plenty of energy on the track, and it bodes well for the future as this is the first in a series of singles, which presumably will lead to a new album.

The band define their sound as modern folk music and indie rock, influenced as much by 90s alternative and 60s roots-rock as by traditional folk music and classic country, and that’s a blend that’s always going to be worth hearing.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
