Regular and attentive readers of these pages will know that one thing that Americana UK really likes is the showcasing of UK creators of americana. It’s almost like it’s our raison d’être. And one of the bands we particularly enjoy featuring is the great Morton Valence, who make a uniquely noirish version of americana that draws on classic songwriting from the sixties and seventies and then gives it a very European-feeling twist.
Today’s song, So Far Away, is a case in point; there’s certainly a touch of Harry Nilsson singing Fred Neil’s Everybody’s Talkin’ about it, and maybe a little Early Morning Rain in places, but it also musically hints at driving along the A7 at Afsluitdijk, looking out at the sea from the dam.
