Kate Prascher’s new single Thousand A Million entwines the physical with the metaphysical in an intriguing and beguiling folk song that plays with notions of time and space (no, not like Dr Who). Kate Prascher describes the song as “a meditation on physical space, setting roots and greeting the past. I wrote it with my ancestors in mind and with a feeling of wide, open plains.“
The song is taken from Prascher’s new album, her second, entitled Sunday Afternoon which was half written while she was living in New York and (big twist) half written after she left – the reflections on moving and finding new spaces inform the release, as Prascher tells it: “I’m interested in how environment informs identity – leaving New York was a reckoning for me. I moved there out of ambition. If I left, could I still consider myself ambitious? My life is less about chasing one thing, and more about grounded rituals, the practices of work and creation. I can hear myself more clearly. I know what I want to say.”
Sunday Afternoon will be released on August 28th on First City Artists.
