Here’s the latest single from London-based band The Long Version. Early Days has a genuine, nostalgic feel, reinforced through songwriter Jon Heal’s sensitive, heartfelt words: “Slowly read each turning page // Don’t hurry through these early days.” His tuneful exploration of the early stages of a relationship or a new experience is supported by singer and bassist Tricia Davies Nearn and David Krupski on the drums.
Heal says of the song: “The song was written shortly after I joined the band, and describes the hesitancy mixed with intoxication that comes with a new experience. For me it was joining a new band, but it could be about a relationship, a new job, moving to a new town… anything that challenges you in a good way.”
Shot by Matt Barker in Blythe Hill Fields, South East London, the video makes use of the glorious quality of natural light provided during the ‘golden hour’ before sundown. Heal is joined in the park by Nearn and drummer David Krupski, whose harmonies blend seamlessly with his smooth, clear delivery. With the City of London nestled in the background, we focus on the trio as they offer gentle rhythms, bright guitar and melodic vocals – all presented with charm and an engaging lightness of touch.
This is the third track on Late Bloomer, the group’s debut album, which is out now. Produced by Americana UK favourite Peter Bruntnell, who also adds flavours of lap steel guitar, the album is an absorbing collection of finely crafted americana songs.
