Jack Barksdale takes a satirical look at the way economics appears to work for the already wealthy, or well-connected. On The Scam Song, he compares the well-known money transfer request scam to the equally well-known situation where a big corporation finds itself in a slight spot, just temporarily, you understand, and would be awfully grateful if they could just touch the taxpayer for a few hundred thousand- oh, actually make it a round million. They’ll be more than happy to pay it all back, with extra, when things turn around. Only, when things turn around, they just can’t help using that – perfectly legal old-man – accounting trick or loophole that means, well, what a surprise, they don’t actually have to pay any tax after all. Isn’t that nice?
A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Jack Barksdale has been writing and performing original songs since the age of nine. Drawing inspiration from the rich traditions of folk, Americana, country, rock, and blues, he has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, captivating audiences with songs whose wisdom far exceeds his years.
