The latest song from Jaspar Lepak is an upbeat declaration of personal hope that resonates strongly with the times, making for a beacon of hope in what can seem like a darkening world. Jaspar Lepak shared her thoughts on the song: “On the Inside started as a list of ways I want to show up in the world. I’m an introvert, and I like that about myself—but I don’t want fear to keep me from speaking up for what is good, kind, and right and showing up for my community. I began writing the song during the pandemic, when isolation and uncertainty were everyday realities. Somehow, the song feels even more relevant now. The song is a reminder to myself to be brave with my love, generous with others, and—most importantly—to act, not just listen. It’s about choosing connection over isolation, taking risks for what matters, and finding something more to give when the world feels so dark.”
Originally from Arizona, Jaspar studied classical piano and literature in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) before discovering songwriting on guitar after college. After establishing herself as a songwriter in Minneapolis, she spent two years in Durban, South Africa, where she found a devoted audience and recorded Forgiving Wind, which was praised by Rolling Stone South Africa. She later moved to Seattle, where her 2021 release Desert Ghosts charted in the Top 10 on folk radio. Over the past 20 years, Jaspar has released 10 albums, steadily building a dedicated following across the U.S. and abroad. On The Inside is taken from the upcoming album We Are All Travelers Here, which will be released November 6th.
