Rosanne Cash, Isbell and more voice support for gun control

Rolling Stone carried an interesting piece yesterday on americana and country artists who in the wake of the recent mass shootings in the US have voiced their support for gun control. In several recent incidents, the guns used were semi-automatic assault weapons which more than half of Americans favour a ban on owning.

Jason Isbell was one of many artists who’ve come out and made a stand on the issue, a big thing given country music’s connections with the NRA. He tweeted: “If you’re on here arguing the definition of ‘assault weapon’ today you are part of the problem. You know what an assault weapon is, and you know you don’t need one.” Even artists like Tim McGraw from the mainstream side of country music have made statements: “There is some common sense that’s necessary when it comes to gun control. They want to make it about the Second Amendment every time it’s brought up. It’s not about the Second Amendment.”  You can read the whole piece here.
