Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit album have got a new album out next month ‘Reunions’ which we have been tantalisingly drip-fed tracks from over recent weeks, but the wait is almost over, particularly if you live in North America. Yesterday Isbell announced plans to release the album exclusively to independent record stores in the U.S. and Canada on May 8th, one week ahead of its official release date of May 15th.
His label Southeastern Records made the decision in order to give some much needed support to independent retailers, many of whom are struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic. Shoppers will have the chance to buy a special ‘Dreamsicle’-coloured LP (the name of a track on the album) as well as a standard LP and CD, and purchases will include a print of ‘Red Eye’ – Isbell’s 1959 Gibson Les Paul. The Record Store Day website offers options to search nearby indie record stores and preorder the album.
Isbell is once again joined for the new album by producer Dave Cobb, whose relationship began on the former’s solo album ‘Southeastern’. David Crosby and Jay Buchanan, of the Grammy-nominated rock & roll band Rival Sons, sing background vocals on the 10 tracks album.
