AUK’s Chain Gang: The Everly Brothers “So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)”

Handed the baton by Emily with Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Dreams’ to follow ‘Dream’ takes me to the Everly Brothers – but rather than pick their well-known song in the same vein ‘All I Have To Do is Dream’ I’m choosing a personal favourite, ‘So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)’, first released in 1960. Written by Don Everly, the song features the brothers’ trademark harmonies, but with a more melancholy feel. The song has been covered by many artists including Dillard and Clark, Hank Williams Jr, John Prine with Connie Smith, and Emmylou Harris.
