Bruce Springsteen “Sunday Love” – here’s lookin’ at you kid

There must have been something in the air in the 2010s – Dylan was putting out his “Sinatra” albums, and Springsteen was recording songs for one of his “lost” albums – soon to be available in full in the seven album box set we discuss every time a new single appears to tease on or other of them. ‘Sunday Love‘ from “Twilight Hours” may well be the strangest Springsteen yet…what would the saviour of rock and roll sound like singing smooth, jazzy mid-20th-century pop? Listen up, and you may just get to dig what the hep cats dig. Or, to put it another way, daddy-o, and in the words of Bruce himself: “I love Burt Bacharach, and I love those kinds of songs and those kinds of songwriters. I took a swing at it because the chordal structures and everything are much more complicated, which was fun for me to pull off. All this stuff could have come right off of those sixties albums.”

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
