Cole Quest and The City Pickers have a new album coming out on Jalopy Records on July 18th, it’s called ‘Homegrown‘ and it has some pretty high profile fans. Here’s an example: “Loved the record! It’s really good!” says Arlo Guthrie. Pretty impressive – Woody’s son. But then, Cole Quest is Woody’s grandson. But seriously though, it’s a great band – if they weren’t then they’d have never have shared bills with Billy Strings, Sierra Hull, Sarah Jarosz, Della Mae, Tony Trischka, Michael Daves, and more.
The new album features three Woody Guthrie songs (including Woody’s iconic “Pastures of Plenty”), a Woody Guthrie/Arlo Guthrie co write, and songs by Peter Rowan and John Hartford as well as new songs written by Quest, that draw on the tradition but come from his own life experiences. And it sounds “really good!”
And (don’t tell the video editor, this is just between us, OK?) there’s also a rather good performance video for the song… and what would you know… it’s right here.
