Cosmic Cool Canadian Whitney K returns with new album and tour for September

Whitney K has announced the new album “Bubble” will come out on Fire Records on 12th September. It’s the first studio release since 2023’s “Hard to Be A God“, which received a rave review on these very pages. The single ‘Rosy‘ was released last month, and this month sees the release of the second single from the album entitled ‘Heaven‘.

Recorded in Montreal, it’s self-produced by band members Josh Boguski and Michael Halls at their home studio. This stripped-back release is potentially Whitney K’s most raw yet refined work to date, filled with sketchy characters and rudimentary comments as lead singer Konner Whitney explores themes of misinformation, daydreams, and self-realisation.

Setting out Whitney K’s thinking, new single ‘Heaven’ is set in a moment of self-examination that questions life’s idiosyncrasies; inspired by dialogue carried on over late-night phone calls, where older, wiser folk tell the rebellious seeker to stay the course and to hold on as things will inevitably get better. Konner W says, “I remember friends that were a bit older than me seeing me struggle when I was in my earlier twenties. They would tell me it gets better. If I hold on, I’ll make it to the other side. It’s a spiritual song, not a religious one.“

Bubble’ unravels on songs that bring to mind the gruff sentimentality of the late Kris Kristofferson, Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’, Eels at their most troubled, and the American Gothic sketches of David Ackles; it could possibly be the perfect soundtrack for a Raymond Carver book club. The album is available to pre-order from this link and you can find the tour dates which kick off on Sep 15th at the New Cross Inn at London below.
