Inland Isle’s White Collar Breakdown is a humorous look at the breakdown of a relationship in the age of AI. The delightful animated video explores the theme further, transporting us to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in the United States. An influx of wealthy knowledge workers has displaced the local people in the town, presenting a barrier to those who need jobs and affordable homes. However, the tale doesn’t end there; the very people who have displaced the locals are displaced themselves when the AI bots arrive in town. Animated by illustrator Ryan Stolp of Lift Lines Comics, the video features an affluent couple who find their home, their very identities and, indeed, their relationship under threat from the rise in technology.
Patrick Chadwick, singer-songwriter and guitarist of Inland Isle, says of the song: “I first sent a demo of this song to the band on the Fourth of July three years ago, and back then it felt like a kind of dark fantasy about AI. In reality, I worry more about the impact on entry-level workers, but it’s been unsettling to see aspects of the song’s premise come true since then.”
This is the band’s final single before the release of their sophomore album, In Denial, due for release on 28th August 2026. Named after a mishearing of the band’s name, the album’s eight songs feature expansive piano, glorious harmonies and horn arrangements to complete a full, adventurous sound.
