Margo Price covers Roky Erickson on new tribute album – Listen

We revealed in April that a new tribute album is on the way to founding member and the leader of the 13th Floor Elevators and a pioneer of the psychedelic rock genre Roky Erickson, and Margo Price has this week revealed her cut from it which is ham-azing. The song is the opening track from Erickson’s cult classic album ‘The Evil One’‘Two-Headed Dog (Red Temple Prayer)’ is a song loosely inspired by the crazy head-transplant experiments conducted by a Soviet surgeon in the Fifties, and despite tweaking the title to ‘Red Temple Prayer (Two-Headed Dog)’ Price’s version is more or less faithful to the original.

‘May the Circle Remain Unbroken: A Tribute to Roky Erickson’ arrives next month on July 17th as a Record Store Day exclusive, featuring covers of Erickson’s solo songs and with the 13th Floor Elevators by Jeff Tweedy, Lucinda Williams, Billy Gibbons, and Neko Case, among others.
