Mary Gauthier has been announced as leading the AMA-UK Conference Songwriting Workshop 2018 in Hackney in January. Held on the second day of the conference, the Songwriting Workshop is described as “an opportunity to delve in to what really makes Americana tick: the song” and gives AMA-UK members and delegates the opportunity to workshop one of their songs with some of the top songwriters and experts in Americana. Joining Gauthier on the panel are songwriters and artists Chris Difford, Beth Neilsen Chapman and Sam Baker.
Eight selected songwriters will each perform one of their songs (acoustic only) in front of the panelists and audience of conference delegates, and receive expert feedback and advice. Each slot will last 15 minutes. Anyone invited to perform will be required to purchase a conference ticket if they do not already have one. Performers will also receive a complimentary balcony ticket for the UK Americana Awards show at The Hackney Empire later the same evening. The deadline for submissions is Monday 18th December 2017. Head here for more information.
The AMA-UK will also bring “Songwriting LIVE with Mary Gauthier and Beth Neilsen Chapman” to the conference, getting down to the actual business of co-writing a song live in front of an audience (but don’t be tempted to shout out “fix!” if it sounds too good) In the meantime, look out for a review of Gauthier’s new album soon on AUK, and here’s Sarah Silverman interviewing her recently on her Hulu show which is helpfully not available as a service in the UK.
I am are very excited that Mary Gauthier will be teaching at the 2019 Yosemite Songwriting Retreat. Mary is an extraordinary songwriter and a revolutionary educator. Watch also her TED talk and get inspired
Great opportunity for songwriters! Thanks for sharing!
