Big Machine Records and Surfdog Records have released the fourth advanced track from the “GLEN CAMPBELL DUETS – Ghost on the Canvas Sessions”(released on 19th April 2024). Hope Sandoval, lead singer of Mazzy Star, lends her voice to ‘The Long Walk Home’ to create a unique take on the poignant song written by Campbell and Julian Raymond about his journey with Alzheimer’s and reconciliation with his mortality. Nearly seven years after Campbell succumbed to the disease, these sessions bring together Campbell’s past collaborators, friends and admirers to create a one-of-a-kind tribute to Glen and this emotional album.
“Glen and I listened to a couple of different Mazzy Star songs while we were preparing to record the Meet Glen Campbell album and after listening to ‘Mary of Silence’ he said ‘I can’t do better than that,’” said producer and co-writer Julian Raymond. “He greatly admired Hope’s talent. Her vocal on ‘The Long Walk Home’ is just stunning and beautiful, you really feel the emotion of the song.”
“It’s been a great honour to have been invited to sing with Glen on this stunning song, ‘The Long Walk Home,’” says Sandoval. “His voice is captivatingly beautiful. He is by far one of the best Country music artists and vocalists of all time.”
Following one of the most illustrious careers in Country music, including 64 albums and countless awards, Campbell succumbed to his Alzheimer’s diagnosis. While battling the illness, he created “Ghost On The Canvas”, a bittersweet and sentimental swan song of an album that tackles the range of emotions associated with such a final diagnosis and acceptance of fate and gives hope. You’ll find it discussed on the classic Americana albums thread which you can find here.
