Newport Folk Festival to release “John Prine and Friends Live At Newport Folk 2017” on vinyl

It’ll be a year soon since we lost one of the greats of country music, one of the first high profile casualties of the pandemic. Back in 2017, Prine was readying what would turn out to be his final album, 2018’s ‘The Tree of Forgiveness’, and while in the process of doing that played a lovely set at the Newport Folk Festival alongside friends Justin Vernon, Jim James, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, Lucius, and Roger Waters. That performance has now been captured on a two-record vinyl set which is due to land in October of this year.

The proceeds from the album will support the Newport Festivals Foundation’s ongoing initiatives to support musicians in need during the pandemic and music programmes across the US. You can pre-order now from the festival website for $50 and receive a digital version of the album immediately. In the meantime here’s a clip of Prine playing from that set – he was genuinely one of a kind.
