NOCONA “How Do You Feel?” – pretty good, mostly, slight ache just there, but mustn’t grumble

Are you, good readers of Americana UK, ready for some music that isn’t Americana?  What?  What?  No, no, calm down, it’s not so bad.  NOCONA, the band from Los Angeles, have spent 12 years denying that they are any form of alt-country indie-americana.  No siree, that they are not – for they are, and always have been, LA cowpunks.  Who’s going to tell them that’s a sub-genre of Americana?  Rolling eyes emoji to the maximum.

But let us not split hairs, not when we can bring you some raucous barroom rock, with the added attraction of the guitar and vocals of Rosie Flores who brings her talents to How Do You Feel? to further beef up the sound of NOCONA.   NOCONA is Chris Isom (vocals and guitar), Adrienne Isom (bass), Matt Brundrett (drums) and Elan Glasser (harmonica). How Do You Feel? is the first single from a forthcoming full-length record (due summer 2026), and is NOCONA’s first new music since 2020.  The music was recorded live with the full band in the studio, their own rhythm section serving as a metronome.  How cowpunk, don’t you think?

Should you be signed up for it, you’ll be able to catch NOCONA on the Outlaw Country Cruise heading out into the Gulf of Mexico this coming weekend.  Anchors aweigh.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
