Our new playlist of the best new Americana we’ve heard over the last month is out later today exclusively for AUK supporters which includes new tracks by Iron and Wine, Pokey LaFarge, Dawn Landes, Old 97s, Mark Knopfler and Sarah Jarosz among others – basically we trawl through the best Americana we’ve heard recently so you don’t have to – and if you’re one of our supporters, this month you can win a pair of tickets to see the excellent Katherine Priddy whose UK tour started this week in Bristol.
Since Richard Thompson chose Priddy as “The Best Thing I’ve Heard All Year” in Mojo Magazine on the strength of her 2018 “Wolf” EP, her star has risen exponentially. Winning fans from Guy Garvey, Mark Radcliffe, Stuart Maconie and the late Janice Long and garnering glowing press reviews across the board for “The Eternal Rocks Beneath” including The Observer, Uncut, Songlines and hey, AUK, Priddy crossed genres, charting at number 1 in The Official UK Folk Chart and number 5 in the Official UK Americana Chart, and rounded off 2021 on Mojo’s Folk Albums of the Year list.
We described her latest album “The Pendulum Swing” back in February as “an early contender for album of the year… which features excellent songwriting, ethereal vocals and finely crafted arrangements with a nod to the recordings of Nick Drake.”
