Readers’ Picks: The Turnpike Troubadours “A Tornado Warning”

Tris Robinson from Nottingham makes an impassioned plea for The Turnpike Troubadours to get more coverage. We hear you Tris.

“The older I get, the grumpier I become. Usually about politics and religion, or football, which is not for this forum, however, another gripe is music, It never ceases to amaze me how mediocre, bland bands and artists get praised to the heavens and infinite airtime when more deserving cases, in my opinion, are practically ignored…. artists such as Jason Isbell and John Moreland don’t get a look in, and neither do my pick, ‘The Turnpike Troubadours’. I was fortunate enough to see them at the now-defunct ‘Maze’ in Nottingham on 9th February 2017. They were brilliant.”

Tris sent us a link to that Maze gig but unfortunately the audience taken footage wasn’t of sufficient quality to do the band justice, so we’re using a clip from Austin City Limits featuring one of the Troubadours best songs.

Readers’ Picks’ invites you to send us your suggestions for a piece of music that you love and that you think others would love too. It could be a video clip of a particularly memorable performance or a particular track that you love – audio tracks can also be suggested. Your choice can be vintage or modern, legendary or obscure, so long as it’s any good!

If you want to suggest something please supply the following:

  • Your name and location
  • A link to your choice
  • A few words (maximum 100) outlining why you have chosen it.

Send your suggestions to us using this email address or our contacts page.

We look forward to hearing from you.

My idea of a perfect day would be a new record arriving in the post in the morning, watching Ipswich Town win in the afternoon followed by a gig and a pint with my mates at night,

Saw them at the Cluny (Newcastle) and they were brilliant. I’ve been a fan for years. Listen to them sing The Mercury. Sadly in a hiatus because of Evan Felkers personal problems.

Fingers crossed Evan is on the road to recovery, and they can continue as a band again, that would be great news.
