Ruth Hazleton “Letter From A Friend (Fire Song)” – all things have passed

Letter From A Friend (Fire Song)‘ is the lead track from Ruth Hazleton’s upcoming album “Heronbones“, which will be released in September 2025.   “Heronbones” draws on Hazleton’s love of traditional song and folkloric themes, using sampling, sound design and electronic beats alongside electric guitar, banjo, drums and strings.

Letter From A Friend (Fire Song)‘ is a musical interpretation of actual correspondence that Australian Hazleton received from a close friend who lost their home to the flames in the Bush Fires of 2020.  There’s a slow revealing of the depth of sorrow that this loss entails, it’s not just a dwelling that has gone but everything that occurred there and all the life that surrounded it, lost to scorched earth and ashes.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
