And he’s number one in the UK’s americana chart too. Billboard reports: “Ryan Adams takes no prisoners as he arrives at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums, Alternative Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts (dated March 11) with his new LP, Prisoner. Adams’ 16th studio album, and first of new material since his self-titled 2014 set, opens with 45,000 equivalent album units (42,000 in traditional album sales) in the week ending Feb. 23, according to Nielsen Music.
The singer-songwriter scores his third No. 1 on Americana/Folk Albums, second on Top Rock Albums and first on Alternative Albums. On the all-genre Billboard 200, Prisoner starts at No. 8, marking his fifth top 10.
Prisoner was preceded by Adams’ full-album cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989, which he released in September 2015. That set, plus 2014’s Ryan Adams, are his previous leaders on Americana/Folk Albums, while the latter was his only Top Rock Albums No. 1 prior to Prisoner.
“Do You Still Love Me,” the new album’s lead single, has reached No. 7 on Adult Alternative Songs, becoming his ninth top 10 on the airplay chart. He arrived with the three-week No. 1 “New York, New York” in 2001; tallied his second and most-recent leader, “Lucky Now” (one week), in 2011; and had last visited the list in 2015-16 with his No. 3-peaking take on Swift’s “Bad Blood.””
