Something for the weekend: Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough”

Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader, and we leave you with a new track out today from the great Josh Ritter, a cover of the Cyndi Lauper classic ‘The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough’ from 1985. Steven Spielberg had made Lauper the musical director for The Goonies soundtrack, for which she sought out new bands to be included in the project including her friends, the Bangles, but also recorded music herself. (Although she apparently refused to play the song live for 17 years). Ritter said of the song: “Like many, I grew up to The Goonies. As a Northwest misfit myself, desperately hoping to find buried treasure and fight pirate ghosts, it was right up my alley. Every time I watched, the song, “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” stole my heart away every time that it came on. I just wanted to play that song so bad. Thanks to Sam Kassirer and the whole band, my dream has come true! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it!” It is indeed a hoot. Have a good one.
