What? Him? Again? That’s right, sorry. But don’t worry, it’s not a permanent annexation of the week’s last posting, and the Editor will return…soon. Honest.
So, what excitement will the weekend bring? As a music website, obviously, we’re pretty much contractually obliged to recommend that a trip to the nearest juke joint to see your choice of artist perform should be on the cards – but what if there’s nothing happenin’ this weekend, just another Abba impersonation band or something equally lacking in that Americana spirit? What then? Well, there’s always the flicks. What could be nicer than a trip to see the latest movie presentation?

Anyway, which screen you choose is of course, up to you, but if we might make a suggestion – and assuming that you’re over the age of 15 – then might we suggest ‘SINNERS‘? We don’t (currently) have a regular movie column, but if we did, then this is a film that could be summed up in three words: “That was astonishing.” It’s a 1920s depression set story with so many layers it really needs a second (or more) viewing to appreciate everything that’s going on. It would really be a crime to give any spoilers – do yourself a favour and try to avoid finding out too much about it – but one of the important things that we can share is that it has a crackin’ soundtrack. Rhiannon Giddens is involved – so it’s that good. There’s Blues, yes, but acoustic ones and Irish folk and a performance of ‘Rocky Road To Dublin‘ that we guarantee you’ll never forget.
Oh, and if you’re thinking, “That’s never the rocky road to Dublin“, well done, you’re not wrong.
And dont forget your local Palestinian demo they need us more than ever.
