Something for the weekend: Rosanne Cash “The Killing Fields”

That’s us again for this week dear reader. We leave you with a new powerful song from Rosanne Cash in which she tackles the US’s dark history of lynchings, called ‘The Killing Fields.’ “A few years of my own personal reckoning with painful issues of race, racism, privilege, reconciliation, and individual responsibility led up to the moment in the summer of 2020, when finally no one could avert their eyes from the truth of white privilege in America, and the damage and sorrow caused by systemic racism,” Cash said of her new song. “I wrote ‘The Killing Fields’ in that summer.” Today, she’s releasing a 7″ vinyl edition of the song with the b-side featuring her 2020 single ‘Crawl Into the Promised Land’. Proceeds from the vinyl sales will benefit the Arkansas Peace & Justice Memorial Movement, which raises awareness about the history of lynchings in the state of Arkansas. On that sombre note, have a good one.
