If you’re thinking that The Sound Gypsies sound like they might be some kind of folky outfit, then we’re here to tell you that this is not the case. Actually, the sound is balanced more between the twin pillars of Americana and Heartland Rock. The Sound Gypsies are Indiana songwriters Frank Johnson and Sam Koultourides, who have for the past six years met nearly every Wednesday night in a makeshift basement home studio, writing songs inspired by the artists and records that first made them fall in love with music. Those sessions have produced more than forty original songs and an ongoing recording project featuring musicians from John Mellencamp’s touring band.
You Can Still Come Home is an accepting statement – acknowledging that someone has struck out on their own and may well have made something of a bad turn or two in doing so, and gruffly but not begrudgingly letting them know that if they want back in the door is open.
