This rocking number is taken from Freedy Johnston’s new album ‘Back on the Road to You’ which is out on September 9th via 40 Below Records. ‘Tryin’ to Move On‘ relates a series of failures to escape from the current situation to a new, and hopefully better one. There’s little success as flights are missed, rental cars are totalled, vans are “borrowed”….all to no avail. As Freedy Johnstone described it to Americana UK: “’Tryin’ To Move On’ recounts a typical day on the road for me. With maybe a tiny bit of exaggeration. The song wants me to move on and not talk about it, but I will say it’s a song about love and happiness and family. ‘Tryin’ To Move On’ is a gripping tale of suspense told through the bloodshot eyes of a desperate troubadour.”
‘Back on the Road to You’ features a host of supporting musicians – Aimee Mann, Susanna Hoffs, and long time collaborator, Susan Cowsill, along with an all-star roots music band, including Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams), Dusty Wakeman (Jim Lauderdale), Dave Raven (Shelby Lynn) and Sasha Smith (Priscilla Ahn). Freedy Johnstone recorded the album in Los Angeles with producer Eric Corne after setting up house in nearby Joshua Tree.
