Raw, authentic and intimate, ‘Glimpse of Gold’ by singer-songwriter Marcus Angeloni is immediately captivating. It holds our attention throughout, with just a hard acoustic strum and Angeloni’s gritty vocal performance, which is full of urgency and character. His gravelly voice is at the heart of this song, and Angeloni’s emotive delivery is full of feeling and hard-earned life experience. His words are fired up with resilience, resistance and perseverance in the face of life’s challenges: “So burn all the melodies // Try again ’til I get it right // Catch a glimpse of that gold // That golden light.”
Having played in punk, funk and reggae bands in high school, Angeloni went down the americana path after attending the Philadelphia Folk Festival as a seventeen-year-old, where he was exposed to American and international folk. Angeloni is truly a troubadour; his travels have taken him from Colorado, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Tennessee, and Portland to California via New Orleans. Along the way, he’s gathered a wide range of musical genres and influences, all blended together to form the self-styled ‘Americana Outlaw Gypsy Jazz’ that featured on his studio debut album, “Hillbilly Crooner”, which was released just before the pandemic changed the music and live performance scenes. Earlier in 2025, Angeloni released his second full-length album, “The Goodtime Medicine Show”, which is comprised of songs he wrote, self-produced and recorded in apartments and the back of his van over the course of two years. ‘Glimpse of Gold’ follows previous single ‘Wreck Like Me’, released in August 2025, which explores second chances and his recent recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. Angeloni has persevered through turbulent years of addiction, incarceration and vagrancy. Indeed, his most popular song, ‘Pennsylvania Blues’, was written in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility during one of his periods in prison. Now, Angeloni is making a fresh start and channelling his experiences through his music. Check it out.
