Video Premiere: Ajaye “Goodbye Girl”

Canadian folk singer Ajaye, now based in Nashville, premieres her latest live video with Americana UK.  Recorded at The Hen House Studio in Nashville and filmed tastefully by Jason and Chelsea Garriott of Music Neighbors, ‘Goodbye Girl’ is a deeply personal song, perfect for Ajaye’s intimate, conversational vocal delivery.  Almost spoken at times, her singing voice is understated yet tuneful and direct and we listeners feel like we’re right there in the room.  Lyrically, the song reflects a crossroads in Ajaye’s life, a moment when a brave decision transformed everything for her.

Following the end of a relationship, something needed to change and Ajaye was considering whether to move to Australia for work or to Nashville to follow her  dream as a recording artist.  This is when fate stepped in.  Ajaye was at a music festival on a cruise ship and was invited to participate in Camp Copperhead at Sea with Steve Earle. The workshop included a performance showcase and songwriting sessions with Earle, a rare opportunity to work with an Americana legend.  Ajaye recalls the experience and how it inspired her: “Steve is incredibly kind and we had a great conversation after my showcase. I told him I was considering moving to Australia or Nashville, but he interrupted me to say ‘Nashville is exactly where you need to be.’  I am so thankful for that meeting with him because his encouragement gave me the nudge I didn’t know I needed to put myself in the driver seat and start to believe that I could make my dream a reality.  ‘Goodbye Girl’ is inspired by my meeting with Steve. There was a lot I needed to let go of to pursue my dream, and a big thing was the older version of myself who was ultimately holding me back.”

Ajaye’s new life in Nashville really is the stuff of dreams.  A regular performer at the legendary Bluebird Cafe and around the city’s music circuit, she has also performed across the US, Europe and the UK, as well as appearing on Today in Nashville and CTV Morning Live.  In 2019, she was awarded the 2019 British Columbia Country Female Artist of the Year.   ‘Goodbye Girl’ was written with Joni Delaurier, produced by Joe Ernewein and engineered and mixed by Steve Dawson at The Hen House Studios.  It’s the second live video from Ajaye’s upcoming EP ‘Silverline’, a collection of heartfelt songs that explore what it means to grow up and discover yourself – one to look out for.  She fashions the universal stuff of life into beautiful and accessible songs.  Watch and listen – this is your introduction to a memorable artist.
