Check out the new video from Virginia singer-songwriter Connor Daly. The infectious ‘Wishin” features a rolling, flowing vocal delivery and catchy melody, buoyed by a strong beat and building instrumentation as the story unfolds. Daly’s words tumble out over his rhythmic strum. The video, shot in Ashland City and West Nashville, follows Daly through the stages of a relationship. We see the couple enjoying their time together in various authentic locations before Daly is blindsided by his partner ending things and walking away. It reinforces the song’s lyrical narrative and gives Daly the chance to display his acting skills. Daly told AUK about the song and video: “I wrote ‘Wishin” a couple years ago. Even though I have never been through a blindsided breakup, a few of my close friends have. It was a quick write and took me only an hour to finish. Shooting the video was a lot of fun. It was my first true ‘acting’ debut. Director Will Gawley and crew were amazing and did an outstanding job at bringing the story of the song to life on the screen. Will, who is such a jokester, knew exactly how to put me and my leading lady, Jennifer Hart, at ease during the more intimate scenes. Colorful Ashland City Highway 12 served as the backdrop for the travelling scenes and Sam Buttram is a genius with a drone. West Nashville’s quirky Headquarters Coffee, Cool Stuff Weird Things and Betty’s Bar & Grill were the perfect locations.”
After developing his own cascading fingerpicking style on the classical guitar, Daly recorded his first demos in 2019 and fell in love, “…with the process of bringing my own songs to life.” Explaining his approach to songwriting, Daly says: “I try to write music that everyone can relate to in some way. A powerful story aligned with a sweet melody can take a song someplace special.” Indeed it can. Ultimately, that’s what the best songs are all about – a purposeful narrative and melody that are equally captivating. With his smooth singing voice and ear for an engaging tune, Daly is one to watch for country fans. Since his 2022 EP ‘Holding On’, Daly has released a series of singles in preparation for his first full-length album. Enjoy.
Drivin’ along videos can look staged, this one Rocks!! Song and video mesh perfectly. What a story, what a feeling that seems like you were there. Went and listened to everything out on Spotify, every song is a winner. Almost mainstream country but with the most warmth and honesty possible. Could be my favorite song of ’23. Just waiting for the album.
