Nathalie Archangel breathes new life into an upbeat version of Patsy Cline classic “When I Get Through With You”. She delivers a bright, pure vocal performance alongside members of her band Nineteen Hand Horse, with whom she released their debut album “Revel” in 2021. In the video, Archangel and her talented group dance their way through the song and delight in the performance, clearly enjoying themselves. Their positivity is infectious and this is a song that’ll bring a smile to your face. There’s some very fine pedal steel playing throughout, with a particularly bright, absorbing solo halfway through – a real highlight in this version “When I Get Through With You”.
The single is from Archangel’s brand new album, “Patsy on the Porch”, which is out now. Nathalie explains the project: “I started singing some of these tunes several years back as a feature of our local bar gigs so I could study them and get to know them better. I was always intrigued by classic country music and knew enough to approach it with respect. The more I worked with these songs, the more I realised they were exerting a profound, yet subtle, effect on me. They taught me to take up residence on the back side of the beat and to never over-sing. They allowed me to use my instrument in ways I hadn’t in my many years of singing professionally. With this project, I found and embraced my mature voice. I hear the difference in this work and my earlier records — of which I am proud — but not like this. These songs are a part of the American music experience and must never be forgotten. They retain vibrance and relevance. I have no illusions about holding a match, let alone a candle, to the immortal Patsy Cline, but I, too, am devoted to the songs and can read them with honesty, heart and my entire soul and accumulated life experience. I feel that I can finally refer to myself as a fully realised singer!”
Archangel has plenty of experience in collaborating and working with others’ music; she was given a double platinum award for her contributions to Bette Midler’s “Some People’s Lives” and her sophomore album, “Owl”, included duets with the likes of Frankie Valli and Howard Jones. Among many other collaborations, Archangel has worked with the likes of Greg Penny, Don Was, David Kahne and members of Toto. This latest project pays tribute to a country legend while bringing that country sound up to date. Enjoy.
