Check out the characterful, soulful voice of Tania Joy in this video premiere of her latest single, ‘Blink’. The song builds steadily into a powerful and defiant statement that has the cinematic feel of Bond soundtrack. Lyrically, there’s real drama in the repetition of key phrases, such as: “In the blink of an eye can change // I can change your life.” ‘Blink’ is about the lack of control in a doomed relationship but, after the uncertainty, you can emerge stronger.
Joy describes how she came to write the song: ‘Blink’ came to me out of nowhere after a period of writer’s block almost fully formed. I remember giving myself permission to write a bad song in order to clear the cobwebs and the fear that comes with staring at a blank page. In the same sitting, I put pen to paper for what was to become ‘Blink’.”
The video is directed by Luke Camozzi, who explains how the visual came together: “The inspiration was film noir to support the cinematic approach of the song. When we were on set everything just fell into the right place. The artists’ performance was complimented perfectly by the shapes, shadows, and angles. It was a great experience helping bring this vision to life.”
‘Blink’ is the third single release, leading up to a new EP from Joy in autumn 2021, which will be the long-awaited follow-up to 2013’s ‘I’ll Be Around’. The forthcoming EP promises to deliver more of Joy’s heartfelt vocals, dramatic arrangements and excellent songcraft. This is engaging, soulful folk. Enjoy.
So Proud of my cousin across the way…👏🏾❤
