Watch Jason Isbell cover the Stones’ “Gimme Shelter”

Our favourite Alabama country-rocker Jason Isbell (as he describes himself on Twitter: “friend to children, the vaccinated, and those with certain underlying medical conditions”) performed a cover of The Rolling Stones’ 1969 classic ‘Gimme Shelter’ over the weekend, dedicating it to the late Charlie Watts, who died last week at the age of 80. He was joined by his band The 400 Unit and tour mate Brittney Spencer, Isbell taking the lead with vocals and a couple of epic guitar solos, while Spencer sang backup vocals between verses. Watch a crowd recording of it below.

Great rendition and a fine tribute. Jason Isbell can do no wrong.

Not to detract from that in any way, but catch the version from Merlefest 2012 by Sam Bush, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks. Stunning.
