Hattie Whitehead marries folk and electronica in her new single ‘Machine’.  Soaring harmonies can’t disguise the powerful protest message in the lyrics.   This is the first single from Whitehead’s first full-length solo album ‘Bloom’.   The album was produced by John Reynolds who also provides drums on ‘Machine’.   Whitehead and Reynolds are also joined on the track by Chris Pemberton bringing in the pulsing synths.

Whitehead describes how the 2019 general election inspired the song, “Money was being prioritized over care for human beings and financial growth was the driving force behind Boris Johnson’s campaign” she explains. “I created a daydream situation where I envisaged those fueled by greed rising to the top to find themselves alone having cast everyone aside in their pursuit of power. The lyric ‘On your throne alone, you’ll die’ pretty much sums up the sentiment!”

‘Bloom’ is due on 4th October with live dates in the UK throughout the month.
