Pete Rowan “From My Mountain (Calling You) – Bluegrass via Tibet

The title song from Pete Rowan’s new song is a glorious thing, made even more so by the presence of Molly Tuttle and Lindsay Lou.  It’s the title track of Rowan’s latest album, and at first it sounds like a perfect Bluegrass song with floating harmony vocals.  And it is.  But it also incorporates elements of Rowan’s interest in Tibetan music and culture and draws on his friendship with the Tibetan singer Yungchen Lhamo.  At its heart is a shared love of the freedom of mountain landscapes in both Appalachian and Tibetan folk music. “This song appeared from infinite space,” Peter Rowan has explained and thank goodness it did.

Sure, I could climb high in a tree, or go to Skye on my holiday. I could be happy. All I really want is the excitement of first hearing The Byrds, the amazement of decades of Dylan's music, or the thrill of seeing a band like The Long Ryders live. That's not much to ask, is it?
