Dan Tyminski is playing tribute to a hero on his new release ‘One More Time Before You Go: A Tribute To Tony Rice‘, an EP on which he gets a little help from his friends – including Billy Strings, Jerry Douglas, and, on this song Molly Tuttle.
Dan Tyminski wasn’t really a six-string picker, favouring mandolin or banjo – until he heard Tony Rice, and everything changed. Tyminski credits hearing Tony Rice kick-off ‘Ten Degrees and Getting Colder‘ with J.D. Crowe and the New South for the first time, for changing his musical direction. Like the rest of the tight-knit bluegrass world, Tyminski was devastated by the loss of his hero in late 2020. When he heard the news Tyminski processed it through writing a musical tribute. He says “I cried all day on day one, and on day two, had written the instrumental part.” The song ended up being called ‘One More Time Before You Go,’ the title track of the EP.
