Nashville-based trio The Accidentals have just released a collaborative album with Cleveland studio orchestra Kaboom Collective. ‘Reimagined’ is, as the title suggests, a collection of re-worked, re-imagined songs, given new life by the instrumental layers and splashes of sonic colour provided by Kaboom Collective, who are currently in residence at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory. Liza Grossman, Conductor and Director of Kaboom Student Orchestra, contacted The Accidentals to discuss recording one of their songs with her student orchestra. This soon grew into an inspiring project, in which the band supplied basic tracks and then Grossman’s students scored, arranged and recorded new versions. The songs have truly blossomed through this partnership.
The latest single, ‘Mangrove’, originally appeared on the 2013 album ‘Bittersweet’. Here, it is transformed. It is joyful. Quite simply, the arrangement is gloriously uplifting and the song is elevated to something transcendent. Songwriter and lead singer Sav Buist delivers a stirring performance, buoyed by the sweeping and flowing orchestra.
Kaboom Collective co-founder Joe Weagraff says of the song: “Kaboom Collective was honored to work with The Accidentals to arrange, perform, and record a new version of ‘Mangrove’ with full orchestra, adding a magical dimension to this already dreamy song that fans love. Liam Cummins, a student on the Kaboom Composition Team, arranged the piece with The Accidentals. He amplified the playfulness and layers within ‘Mangrove’ that make it special…its whimsical, atmospheric, and positive vibe reflects the mission of our group and our partnership with The Accidentals.”
