Justin Tipton’s music career could be said to have started at the age of three when he picked up a toy guitar and banged out a tune. A more truly significant moment may have been some years later when his dad took him to see Band of Heathens and, in Titpon’s words, “As soon as the band kicked off their set, I knew that’s what I wanted to do for a living. I felt like I was watching an episode of ‘How it’s Made,’ and I was instantly hooked.”
Today’s premiere comes from the soon to be released album ‘Burn These Bridges’, which will be out on March 10th. It’s a record that draws on country, rock, blues, and folk music, with a heartfelt tip of the hat to Tipton’s heroes such as Tom Petty, Steve Earle, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. ‘Don’t Let Me Sleep Alone‘ is a slower country tinged ballad with a fine melodic guitar solo which makes that plea to not be walked out on “baby don’t make me sleep alone / You got to come home tonight baby / I just don’t feel alright.”
Justin Tipton told Americana UK that “‘Don’t Make Me Sleep Alone’ is probably my favourite tune on the album. I recorded it years ago but it sounded empty without a female voice, so it never got released. When we recorded it this time we were lucky that Frankie Leonie agreed to join us on it. And I think she completed the song in a way that more than exceeded expectations because her voice fits the song perfectly.”
