More magic from the muddy shores of Muscle Shoals, Hannah Aldridge brings Southern Gothic vibes to life in the video for ‘Dorero’. Aldridge’s striking, unsmiling visage fills the screen as her breathy alto voice fills the air. Chamber music strings join the fray a third of the way through the song. The lonely images of the video were created by director Gabriel Mozart Abeyta for Claymo Productions.
Of the song Aldridge says, “‘Dorero’ came to life in midst of what felt like the darkest moment in my life. I was drowning in the magnitude of what a pandemic meant for me and dealing with a lot of loss and grieving in every area of my life. I was sitting in the parking lot of my apartment in Nashville, TN, talking to my friend Lachlan Bryan on the phone, who lives in Melbourne, Australia. We talked about the possibility of writing some songs together via the internet while we were all home quarantining to give ourselves something to do during our down time. A couple days later I had a rough demo in my email from Lachlan of a song that started “I take back everything I said Dorero. I don’t believe a word I read about you”, and from there the song was given life. I sent back some more lyrics and music and in a couple days we had the first song for the record. This song and, eventual record, was me grieving out loud. I was in such a dark place that I just wrote like it was the last thing I would ever write. I was lucky to have Lachlan Bryan and his right hand man, Damian Caferella, on board 100% when we came to production. We carefully created an Old Hollywood, cinematic sound, colliding with Southern Gothic storytelling and it all began with ‘Dorero’.
‘Dorero’ is from the upcoming album ‘Dream of America’ which will be released by Icons Creating Evil Art in June of 2023.
