Here is the premiere of an outstanding live session of ‘185’, the striking new song from Sylvan Weekends. Featuring a glorious combination of banjo and synth sounds, propelled by brilliantly hypnotic percussion, it’s a captivating song to lose yourself in. Floating over the fine instrumentation, the harmonies from co-writers Freya and Matthew are dreamily melodic. The three band members bring their own particular influences to Sylvan Weekends’ songs: Matthew’s work is steeped in folk traditions, Daniel has a rock background and electro sounds come from Freya. Far from clashing, these contrasting sounds actually complement one another and result in a fluid, absorbing sonic experience.
‘185’ is the lead single from the band’s brand new EP ‘Outliers’, which is out now. This is the debut release from the London-based alternative folk-pop trio. The three band members each bring their own experiences of preforming and recording. Matthew’s band, Keston Cobblers Club, have received plenty of acclaim and have supported the likes of Bellowhead and Paul Heaton & Jaqui Abbot on tour. Freya has released music under the name Freya Lily, while also appearing on BBC Sounds podcasts and providing session vocals for Staves, Jools Holland and other artists. Meanwhile, Daniel has released three albums with his band Stables, who have performed across Europe and at multiple festivals, including Glastonbury and Cambridge Folk. They are a talented trio with an engaging sense of freedom and melody. Collectively, their music is fresh and distinctive and the new EP is well worth checking out.
